Description: A Yorkiepoo is a Poodle hybrid that is a cross-breed of a Poodle and a Yorkshire Terrier and may demonstrate any combination of traits from those two breeds. Poodle hybrids have become very popular in the past few years. They play a big role in the current designer dog trend. The cross with the Poodle is usually because of the Poodle's non-shedding coat. The experimentation of these hybrid or designer dogs has not been recognized by the American Kennel Club or Canadian Kennel Club. The key to cross breeding to purebred dogs is what is called hybrid vigor, the breeding resulting in a healthier dog with superior genetic constitution can come from dogs purebred for so long that they have common genetic disorders. The Yorkiepoo combination creates an intelligence that is average to above average. This breed can be hypoallergenic depending on if it resembles more of the Poodle side of the breed. The Yorkiepoo can be cuddly and angelic, but also sassy and feisty. Since this breed is so little, he or she can easily be carried around in an arm or a bag. The Yorkipoo likes to be the center of attention and will let you know. When the Yorkipoo gets caught chewing on a shoe, just a lick or cocking her head to the side will melt your heart and show you how incredibly cute your puppy is! The Yorkipoo is clever and a fast learner. This is a great apartment dog, but will need to go outside for walks. If not, you will hear about it! Yorkipoos are great family dogs, but need to be monitored with small children because of their friskiness and high activity levels.

With Children: Good with children, but small children need to be monitored with this breed. Yorkipoos are quick and frisky and may be difficult for small children to handle properly.

Care and Exercise: Needs lots of playtime and regular walks. Groom regularly because of longer hair; brush hair daily.

Training: High – very trainable due to higher intelligence in the breed.

Health Issues: Could be prone to eye diseases, luxating patellas, hip dysplasia and Legg-Calve’-Perthes disease.

History: This breed has become popular in the last 10 years because of their low-shedding, low-dander feature as well as their appeal as a cute, small pet that is intelligent and highly trainable.
