Description: The Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog is a breed of dog that originated in Australia to herd cattle. It is similar to its cousin the Australian Cattle Dog but with several differences, the most obvious being its naturally "bobbed" tail. The tail is not actually surgically docked. Due to the square body ratio to height, the breed is leggier than the ACD, and does not have the heavy body mass of the ACD. This makes for a more agile dog with tremendous stamina in the fields and pastures. The feet are round with short toes. It has a natural bobtail. The Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog is energetic, watchful, free-spirited, obedient and alert. Brave and trustworthy. Stumpy Tail's are suspicious of strangers, but very loyal to their own families.

Care and Training: Little care is needed for their coarse, shorthaired, weather-resistant coat, a brush and a bath when necessary. Comb and brush coat with a firm bristle brush, and bathe only when necessary. Very good in the obedience ring and in herding and agility. Firm training from the start and lot of daily attention.
Learning Rate:

Activity: Exercise is importance - without enough they can become bored and destructive. They need to be taken on long daily walks.
Special Needs:
Living Environment: Not recommended for apartment life and does best with at least a large yard.

Health Issues: This breed is extremely hardy some may suffer from hereditary deafness and some eye problems.

History: The Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog, originated from Australia. It is a descent of the Dingo, which was crossed with a long dense coated, black and white bob-tailed dog (Smithfield). In 1988 the breed was recognized by the Australian National Kennel Club.
