Why Dog Dental Health is Important

Dog dental health is very important for preventing health issues later in life. Bacterial infections from periodontal disease can spread to other vital organs including the heart, kidneys and intestinal tract.

Oral neglect results in an abundance of plaque build up on the teeth. Plaque is a combination of bacteria, saliva proteins and food debris that can harden into tarter. This process causes gingivitis and more serious periodontal diseases. Once periodontal disease occurs, other issues and complications arise such as receding gums, loosened teeth, and damage to the ligaments and bone tissues. Your dog's teeth will eventually fall out due as an effect.

Signs of Oral Problems and Disease

  • Bad breath
  • Excessive drooling
  • Swollen red gums
  • Bleeding gums when chewing a toy or food
  • Tumors in the gums Cysts under the tongue
  • Loose or missing teeth
  • A yellow-brown plaque on teeth
  • Pain when chewing or eating

Regular dental care, from a young age, can prevent many of these problems and serious health issues.
